Seattle’s Skillet uses a vintage Airstream as a mobile eatery showing up at scheduled locations during the week. They serve breakfast and lunch from mobile locations near downtown Seattle, Fremont, Redmond, Capitol Hill and more. The odd thing about Skillet’s Airstream trailer is that it’s missing wheels and axles and is propped up on another flatbed trailer for towing. Check their online site for the latest schedule.

Airstreamed Cupcakes
Recently I posted about an Airstream serving shaved ice in Texas. Today there’s two Airstream trailers selling cupcakes in Austin, TX. Hey Cupcakes has three locations and two of them are inside a vintage Airstream trailer. Both trailers feature a large rotating cupcake on the roof that also lights up at night. Their menu includes vanilla, chocolate, carrot, and red velvet cupcakes. They also have one named after Michael Jackson described as “chocolate bottom, cream cheese top”.
Vintage Trailerware
Want an easy way to store your paper towel, foil and wax paper all in one place? Why not a vintage Kromex or Lincoln Beauty Wear all-in-one dispenser. That’s exactly what flickr user “gtykal” did. He restored his 1964 Airstream Bambi II and outfitted his kitchen with various Kromex pieces including the all-in-one dispenser, salt and pepper shakers and spice rack. The all metal design compliments the interior of an Airstream. You can try finding Kromex or Lincoln items on Google, eBay, or Etsy.
Photo of the Week
This is a new weekly post that will feature an interesting photo of an Airstream trailer. This week’s photo was captured by “the pentax hammer (gary)” and titled “Airstream – American Made” on flickr.
The Airstream Office Desk
When I first started browsing the ‘net for anything Airstream I found a wow item at Airstream’s online store. They actually make a desk that resembles the rear of a trailer. The Airstream Office Desk features authentic LED brake lights, side marker lights, choice of two different laminate tops and several different storage arrangements. At $1600 it’s not cheap, but you’ll have a very unique desk and what a conversation piece. I wonder who actually owns one?
Rock-A-Billy’s Shaved Ice
How cool is this? Two guys restore a vintage Airstream and Rock-A-Billy’s Shaved Ice is born. It’s an old International model that’s been completely gutted, painted and set-up to churn out shaved ice. It’s even towed by a vintage Chevy truck painted orange. If you’re ever in Round Rock, TX get some shaved ice!
Do your duty
As an Airstreamer, you are obligated to keep history alive. If you’re not already a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, you need to become one. Why? You bought an Airstream because of its quality, innovation, design and most of all its heritage and in order to keep that heritage alive and kicking you need to support the oldest RV association on the planet. I know I’ll be getting my WBCCI number as soon as I get my trailer. I’m sure after you have experienced a caravan or rally you’ll be happy you became a member. Happy camping!
Polka dots, jellyfish and Nelson Mandela
Take a fleet of seven vintage Airstream trailers, design unique interiors for each, plop them onto the roof of The Grand Daddy hotel in Cape Town, South Africa and you’ve got the Airstream Penthouse Trailer Park. Each trailer has been decorated with a specific theme in mind. There’s a Dorothy themed trailer with everything inside decorated in white polka dots, an Afro-Funk themed trailer featuring tribal patterns and pillows with Nelson Mandela’s face on them, and another theme Earthcote moontides transports you into an undersea world with jellyfish walls and earth tone fabrics. There’s even a walk-up mini-bar in the penthouse trailer park. I checked one of the trailer’s for booking and it’s about $260 per night. Other themes included The Ballad of John & Yoko, Love of Lace, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and Pleasantville.
Organize your tech clutter
Here’s a great way to organize and charge all your mobile tech while camped in your trailer. The ReFresh by Bluelounge is a charging station which features cables for most new mobile devices, a rubber surface for grip and comes in black, white and pink. The design will go well with the interior of our soon to be purchased International SS. The Refresh sells for $90. Bluelounge also sells CableDrop, a six pack of cable organizers that can help wrangle loose cables on tables, counters and etc. $10. You’ll find other useful gadgets to help organize your tech space at Bluelounge.com.
Wine transport
Over at the Air Forums one of the members asked how others transport their wines safely inside an Airstream. Member “Astroboy” suggested using a neoprene tote by Built. They cushion the bottles and you can stuff them under cushions for further protection. The wine totes come in single, two and six bottle versions and lots of colors and patterns. I’ve never needed one before, but it may just work for traveling with wine. The two-bottle version costs $15-$20.
Built also has some other nice products that might come in handy on trips… oven mitts, wine bottle drip collar, laptop sleeves and more.
